| תיאור | we knew granny's old chairs were ancient, but only recently discovered they also carry humble tokens of israeli history: we found this stamp (and several others like it) on the underside of each chair. the text reads "purchase tax", and "500 pruta". the israeli lira was issued from 1954 to 1980. it's 1000's part, the pruta, was cancelled in 1960 - placing the purchase of these chairs sometime in the mid- to late fifties. at the time, everything was rationed, so presumably the stamps showed that the purchase was legit. |
